Since opening in 2003, What’z up has been captivating fashion lovers from its second-floor space just off Meiji Street, near Takeshita Street. The shop’s owner first opened the original store in Koiwa in 2000 after studying in the U.S., later expanding to Sendai and finally to Harajuku. Today, What’z up is recognized by fashion enthusiasts and even international celebrities as a top destination for vintage T-shirts.
From the street, the glass window displays an impressive lineup of vintage tees featuring movie icons, anime characters, and band graphics. Once you climb the stairs marked by the shop’s signboard, you’ll find yourself surrounded by walls and ceilings filled with 90s-era vintage T-shirts.
The main focus is on 1990s American culture—classic movie tees, rock band designs, and pop culture prints that each tell a story.
What makes What’z up truly special is its staff. With deep knowledge and a great sense of style, they can share the background of each piece and help you find one that perfectly fits your personality. They can even source specific artist or film T-shirts through their overseas network. At What’z up, buying vintage isn’t just shopping—it’s about owning a piece of cultural history.

Tucked away on a quiet backstreet of Harajuku, PENGUIN TRIPPER is a vintage streetwear store that carries the spirit of the 1990s “Ura-Harajuku” culture into the present. The shop started as an online store and opened its physical location about five years ago. The owner, a well-known Stüssy collector, gradually shaped the store’s lineup around Stüssy and other iconic Ura-Hara brands. Today, it’s one of the most talked-about stores in the scene, often invited to pop-up events by select shops across Japan.
Although compact, the store is packed floor-to-ceiling with treasures. Near the entrance, shelves of T-shirts and small goods await, while the back wall is lined with vintage streetwear. The store focuses mainly on Stüssy pieces from the 1980s to today, as well as rare A BATHING APE items from the 1990s to early 2000s.
Among the highlights are varsity jackets, especially the rare 2012 Stüssy × BEDWIN & THE HEARTBREAKERS collaboration jacket featuring the Rasta Lion embroidery—a collector’s dream piece. Inside the glass showcase, you’ll also find original stickers, novelty goods, and even KUBRICK figures, offering a real taste of Tokyo’s underground street culture.
PENGUIN TRIPPER isn’t just a vintage store—it’s a time capsule that keeps the energy of 90s Harajuku alive. If you want to experience the roots of Japanese street fashion, this is a must-visit destination.
