Able Hakuba Goryu & Hakuba47 Winter Sports Park Experience Stunning Alps Views and Premium Powder at Hakuba’s Top Resort

Hakuba Village hosted the 1998 Nagano Winter Olympics. Among its many ski areas, Able Hakuba Goryu & Hakuba47 stands out for its massive scale and exceptional snow quality.

Located at the foot of the 2,814m Mount Goryu, this international mountain resort offers more than just skiing. It is highly rated by global skiers and snowboarders for its breathtaking views of the Northern Alps and high-quality “Japow” (Japan Powder). This resort is an ideal choice for first-time visitors to Hakuba and intermediate to advanced riders who value a mix of great scenery, dining, and diverse terrain.

1 Panoramic Views of the Northern Alps and Mt. Goryu

The resort is surrounded by the majestic Northern Alps. From the summit at 1,676m, you can see as far as Mt. Asama and the Yatsugatake Mountains on clear days. Morning is the best time for photography and cruising on freshly groomed runs. The crisp air and the contrast between the mountain peaks and the snow provide a world-class visual experience for those who prefer relaxed skiing with a view.

2 Two Resorts, One Lift Pass: Explore Three Unique Areas

Hakuba Goryu and Hakuba47 are connected at the summit. With a single shared lift pass, you can access all 23 courses across a vast area.

  • Hakuba Goryu Area: Known for wide, stable slopes perfect for cruising and taking in the views.
  • Hakuba47 Area: Features one of Japan’s best terrain parks and extensive “Tree Run” areas (off-piste skiing in wooded areas) for active riders.

A popular strategy for travelers is to explore Goryu on the first day to get a feel for the terrain, then head to the more adventurous Hakuba47 on the second day.

3 Long Season from Late November to Early May

Due to the high altitude and geographical location, this resort has one of the longest seasons in Hakuba.

  • January to February: The peak season for the best powder snow. You will find a very international atmosphere here.
  • March to May: Spring skiing season. The weather is milder and crowds are smaller, making it perfect for those who want a more relaxed experience.

4 Diverse Dining: Beyond Standard “Ski Food”

The resort offers a variety of high-quality dining options. In addition to traditional Japanese and Italian dishes, you will find vegan-friendly options and modern cafes.

  • Tip: To avoid the peak lunch rush (usually between 12:00 PM and 1:00 PM), consider eating slightly earlier or later for a more comfortable experience.

5 Family and Beginner-Friendly: Iimori Slope

Located next to the “Toomi” base area, the Iimori slope is the best area for families and beginners.

  • Family Land Iimori: Equipped with a “Magic Carpet” (conveyor belt lift) for children and first-timers.
  • Variety: This area also includes mogul lanes and racing lanes, allowing riders of all levels to practice safely before moving to the higher mountain areas.
